I offer psychodynamic coaching

online and in my office, in German and English.

On my unusual path, I have gathered life experience that forms the foundation of my work as a coach and therapist. My inclination to listen, my interest in human destinies, and my commitment to encouraging people to believe in themselves and their own unique path have always been central to my work. I gained leadership experience in over 20 years of managing large, complex development cooperation projects in India, Bangladesh, and Kyrgyzstan, mainly for the Swiss Red Cross.

As a psychodynamic coach, I strive to see each person as the complex, unique individual they are. My international experience helps me connect with people from different cultures. Within a growing relationship of trust, I provide impulses for self-reflection, and together we develop alternative perspectives and courses of action. A central element of my work is appreciation. I believe it is just as important to recognize strengths as it is to understand problems — because what we approach with appreciation tends to grow. I also like to use the power of imagination, especially to heal old wounds that keep us from moving forward and living our lives fully.

I enjoy working with people who — often triggered by a crisis — are ready to question assumptions, principles, and certainties about life or themselves. People who are searching for a conversation partner in their quest for a new or deeper sense of direction, free from old thinking patterns, fears, and rules that have outlived their usefulness. People who want to shape their personal or professional relationships more constructively and are willing to look at and work through their own difficult parts. And people who seek support during a challenging phase of their life.

Coaching or Therapy - or both?

The difference

Psychotherapy deals with the treatment of mental illnesses and helps to alleviate psychological suffering.

Coaching, in contrast, is aimed at people without a mental health condition who want to advance their personal or professional development — who want to grow in the broadest sense. Apart from this, the reason for seeking coaching  is often triggered by a crisis or a feeling of being stuck or by feeling a disconnect between one's outer life and the inner core.

But there is also a significant  overlap

between the two —
so much so that many people wonder whether they need coaching or therapy.

The overlap

Crises — in our personal or professional lives — often become turning points that awaken the desire to grow and seek coaching. And crises involve considerable stress, often accompanied by psychological symptoms (e.g., sleep problems, tension, anxiety, low mood, rumination) without a mental disorder being present. And chronic stress can lead to psychological and physical illnesses (e.g., depression, psychosomatic pain, high blood pressure, immune system issues).
For this reason, psychodynamic coaching also has a preventive, health-promoting effect, because we work through the underlying emotional conflicts that fuel crises and stress.

If psychological symptoms are present, I can, as a licensed medical psychotherapist, also offer short-term targeted therapeutic interventions without requiring you to involve another therapist. I also recognise early signs of a developing mental health condition — in which case we can begin therapy instead of coaching.

With me, you don’t have to choose.
We set out on the path together and do what helps you most.

My coaching training is accredited by the DBVC (German Federal Association for Coaching) and the IOBC (International Organisation for Business Coaching). I completed it at the POP Institute (www.pop-psa.de).
